Selective is seeking a Data Science Solution Designer for an exciting opportunity to join the Innovation group here at Selective. The successful candidate will work in the Advanced Analytics team supporting our business, claims, marketing, and operations teams while partnering with our data scientists. You will gain and leverage specific business segment, function, and process knowledge, a deep understanding of business-area data, and advanced analytics techniques to identify ways to improve profitability and efficiency at Selective. We will then collaboratively plan, develop, test, implement, and monitor predictive or prescriptive analytics solutions to these strategic business problems. You will be empowered to determine use cases, work directly with business and IT leaders and set the strategy and approach needed to effectively monitor the performance of implemented solutions.
Responsibilities:
Identify and develop use cases for advanced analytical solutions to strategic business problems by leveraging knowledge of the current state of the assigned business-area function, processes, data, future needs, industry and market trends, and advanced analytics best practices. Engage and work closely with business stakeholders to identify, define, and prioritize Advanced Analytics initiatives and drive activities based on changing business or market demands. Ensure advanced analytics solutions are chosen and developed in alignment with the corresponding business area strategy and the overall Advanced Analytics strategy. Collaborate with key business stakeholders, data scientists, advanced and operational insights analysts, and Information Technology colleagues to plan and effectively execute initiatives through the Advanced Analytics lifecycle. Effectively manage and communicate initiative scope, risks and issues, stakeholder expectations, and business value realization for assigned Advanced Analytics initiatives. Develop strategy and approach for post-implementation monitoring and communicates the ongoing business benefit impact as well as model performance tracking for assigned analytical projects. Effectively communicate and present the results of predictive and prescriptive analytical solutions to model acceptors, key stakeholders, and business leaders through presentations and executive summaries. Partner with Data Scientists and Information Technology to proactively research innovative and upcoming technical capabilities to identify opportunities for advanced analytical solutions.
Qualifications:
Broad understanding of statistical and data science methodologies and their business applications. Ability to build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships. Strong organizational, time management, and project prioritization skills. Experience in Agile or equivalent iterative methodology. Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills with audiences spanning from peers to executives. Excellent written communication skills; ability to clearly express thoughts and ideas through documentation. Broad understanding of at least one business segment (e.g., Standard Commercial, Personal Lines, Excess and Surplus) Deep Understanding of at least one functional area (e.g., Underwriting, Claims, Risk Management, Finance, Marketing) Knowledge of Customer Experience initiatives including Customer Journey mapping is preferred Experience with Excel, Access, and SQL Strong background with business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Qlikview, Spotfire, or Microsoft Business Intelligence. Master's degree with 2 years of analytics experience or Bachelor's with 3-5 year of analytics experience and education in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field preferred. Insurance industry experience preferred.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Data Science & Machine Learning, Database AdministrationEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
